[Certificate] How to get a barista license from the Korea Coffee Association
I have obtained and hold the first and second grade barista certifications hosted by the Korea Coffee Association. The reason why I got a license was not to get a job at a cafe run by an individual, but to work in a directly managed store operated by a company. I got a level 2 license and worked part-time at a cafe to experience whether this path was right for me. Now, I will tell you how to get a barista license from the Korea Coffee Association. What should be the study method? I’m going to share my experiences here and there, but I think you can just pick out the necessary information. 바리스타 자격증 따는 법
Speaking of the difficulty level of the certification, Level 2 was really easy. 좋은뉴스
I bought a book recklessly without any knowledge about coffee and started studying handwriting. The format of the written exam is the same as the past exam questions, so if you study by solving only the answers and questions, you will pass without difficulty. The problem is practical skills, but if you are new to the field, you must register at an academy and study. Since you cannot prepare for the practical test without a grinder and coffee machine, it is recommended that you enroll in an academy to learn how to brew coffee, steam milk, and make latte art.
If you want to enroll in an academy and learn at your own expense, the price is prohibitive. At that time, I did not know about the government subsidy program, and I enrolled in an academy and paid 400,000 won to learn. If you learn with the government subsidy, you can get a license with a small amount of money. Get support and learn. And if you study only by solving problems, you can pass the written exam, so if you only listen to the practical course, you will be able to get a license for less money.
I was also curious about the theory, so I signed up for a course where I could learn both handwriting and practical skills, but I was very disappointed because it was only about explaining the contents of the book and conveying it verbally. The theoretical part is a part that can be studied by purchasing a book separately, so I recommend you to listen to the practical course only.
The book I bought and read is a barista book published by the Korea Coffee Association.
Both Levels 1 and 2 studied with books published by the Korea Coffee Association, and the handwriting is the same as in Level 2, so if you study the questions and answers properly, you will be able to pass the test without difficulty. It doesn’t matter if it’s not a book published by the Korea Coffee Association, so you just have to memorize past exam questions and prepare them.
To prepare for the 2nd grade practical skill, I practiced at the academy, and studied while watching videos on YouTube at home. Everything is difficult at first, but learning it with your body is especially difficult. It is very easy to grind beans with a grinder and extract coffee with a coffee machine, but steaming milk is not as easy as I thought. So, I watched a YouTube video several times that explained it in detail, practiced it at the academy, and applied it, and it steamed beautifully with velvet foam. So, the bottom line is that if you watch the 2nd grade practical skill video on YouTube, watch the milk steam video separately, and practice at the academy, you will be able to pass without difficulty.
The problem is the first-class practical skills, but the first-class practical skills were difficult in my personal opinion. First of all, you have to guess which beans are used, steam milk while brewing coffee, and calculate when to stop coffee extraction. You have to do latte art with steamed milk in the extracted espresso. You have to make a rosetta shape and give it to the supervisor. . To be honest, I was confident in latte art, so I didn’t worry too much about that part, and I had to match the beans and explain the flavor of the beans, but I was a little worried about that part because it was over when I said other beans. Because I have severe rhinitis, and I am a person who is far from smell, that part was difficult. Fortunately, Ethiopia, which has a strong fragrance, was presented as coffee beans, so it was easy to match. Qualifications also require luck.
Coffee certification is a must to go to the academy to prepare for practical skills.
And if the academy I am learning is an exam center, since it is a familiar space, the probability of passing will go up that much.
If you want to get a barista license level 1, you have to get level 2 first to get the qualification to get level 1. Since the cost is quite high, please use the government subsidy program. There are many different types of barista certifications. The barista certification hosted by the Korea Coffee Association is recognized in Korea, so if you want to know about coffee and your goal is to get a job, I don’t think it’s bad to prepare.
I’ve posted before about whether you need a barista license. In my personal opinion, it helped me when I was looking for a job. However, the reality is that practical experience is more important than certification. Since the job of a barista is a manager who manages a cafe rather than a person who manufactures coffee, practical experience is more important. Finally, we will summarize the contents.
If you memorize the questions and answers and take the test, you will pass. You can memorize the questions and answers for both level 1 and level 2. For practical skills, go to an academy and study while watching related videos on YouTube. If you have to get level 2 first and prepare for level 1 right away, you can’t get it if you have to get level 1 later. With the will to finish it in one shot, it is recommended that you prepare and acquire the first level immediately after acquiring the second level. Level 2 is less difficult and Level 1 is more difficult. Make sure you prepare thoroughly and pass. Since the cost of the test is not cheap, make sure to pass it at once.
This concludes the post prepared by the Korean Coffee Association on how to obtain a barista license.
As long as you work hard, you will get good results.
